Athletes Across the US are Joining the Boycott
A whole new wave of protests has been sparked by the recent shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Sports is no longer an exception. In just a few hours, the sports world has become deeply entangled with this issue. Athletes from the NBA, WNBA, MLS, MLB, and more have decided to boycott upcoming games, resulting in numerous matches being called off and postponed across the major sports leagues. They stand in solidarity with the Milwaukee Bucks, who, earlier today, chose not to show up to their game 5 playoff match against the Orlando Magic, and thus kick-started this whole trend. Now, hours later, there is a considerable possibility of the NBA season ending almost as soon as it had restarted. According to reports, the LA Lakers and the LA Clippers, two of the top teams in the Western Conference, voted against finishing the season during a league-wide player meeting held earlier tonight. Although all of the other teams voted otherwise, this conveys a clear idea of how some players feel about the circumstances surrounding social reform and racial injustice. This is still a developing story, and there are still numerous possible outcomes to this string of events.
